Guillermo del Toro está trabalhando como produtor do filme, além de ter colaborado no roteiro. Ele também está envolvido em um projeto não-anunciado com a diretora de O Babadook, Jennifer Kent.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark é uma série de livros de horror focado no público infanto-juvenil. Cada livro da trilogia de Alvin Schwartz traz uma coletânea de contos de terror fortemente inspirados pelas lendas urbanas dos EUA e pelo folclore europeu.
A adaptação para os cinemas gira em torno de uma adolescente normal cuja mãe desapareceu misteriosamente em um Halloween. Anos depois, na mesma data, ela se envolve em uma pegadinha que dá errado, e começa a suspeitar que forças sobrenaturais de um espírito vingativo estão por trás dos dois acontecimentos.
Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Te Pego Na Saída), Michael Garza (Jogos Vorazes) Zoe Colletti (Annie) estão no elenco. O filme é dirigido por André Øvredal, de O Caçador de Troll e A Autópsia.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark estreia em agosto de 2019 nos Estados Unidos. A data de lançamento no Brasil não foi anunciada.
